CGJ4: Aarhus Cultural Game Jam announcement

The fourth Cultural Game Jam in Aarhus will take place between the 21st of March and the 9th of May. This time, the format will be a Slow-Jam: students participating will be developing the games over the course of several weeks.

Students from the master’s degree in Digital Design and the master’s degree in Computer Science from Aarhus University will join forces to develop AR and VR games for this very special game jam. The theme of the jam will be “Heritage Remixed: Rediscover the Past, Reimagine the Future.” Participants will get the chance to work with real cultural heritage – artworks, artefacts, and stories – to craft interactive gameworlds where heritage bends, twists, and collides to create unexpected results.

In this way, heritage will be remixed, to not only explore the past, but also reflect on the values that define us today and the legacies we leave for future generations. Guiding questions to the game jam will include:

  • What histories have been forgotten or deserve to be retold?
  • How can games use cultural heritage to spark conversations about democracy, freedom, and the challenges of today?
  • And: If the past is a story we keep rewriting, then how will we be remembered?
